ASME B31.3 - Welding Processes

ASME B31.3 - Welding Processes

ASME B31.3 - Welding Processes

(OP)
Gents

Reference Chapter V - 328.2.2.f
Is it permissable to allow STT Root & FCAW when B31.3 applies? It seems that clause QW 328.2.2.f relating to fluid piping forbids this? Is this only applicable when using a PQR qualified by 'others' and not the manufacturer?

Reference Chapter IX - K328.2.1
There is no such clause restricting welding processes however it is not permissable to use PQR's qualified by others.

Is my understanding correct in that if the manufacturer qualifies the PQR it is permissable to use STT & FCAW?

Thanks in advance!!

RE: ASME B31.3 - Welding Processes

Stevebro15,
You are correct.
That clause is only applicable to qualification by others,

RE: ASME B31.3 - Welding Processes

Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to find information on the allowance for damage to 31.3 piping due to shipping/transportation.

IIRC, ASME 31.3 allowed scrapes/cuts to sidewall of piping as long as it was less than 10% of wall thickness. I can't find it in code though. Anyone know which section of ASME it's in?

Thanks much,
Adam
