JPEG into an IGES?

JPEG into an IGES?

JPEG into an IGES?

(OP)
Is there a way to take a JPEG image and turn it into an IGES file? Then import it into NX.

RE: JPEG into an IGES?

There's lots of software out there which claims that it can 'vectorize' raster data, but unless the data is already pretty much line art, it's not going to give you much to work with.

But since you asked, I'd start here:

RE: JPEG into an IGES?

Note that I decided to give this a try and so I downloaded a 14 day freetrial version of 'Scan2CAD' (it's one of the products highlighted in the Wiki item in my last reply) and it does just about what I expected.  Note that it doesn't support JPEG -> IGES but it does support JPEG -> DXF so it might still work for what you're looking for, if you can live with the limitations and issues associated with any kind of 'vectorization' process.

DISCLAIMER:  Neither I nor Siemens PLM have any business or financial relationship with the supplier of the 'Scan2CAD' software, so take our comments about this product with that in mind.

Oh, Nice John Baker thank you. Now, what about text, can a new style of text be imported into NX? I need the font Eras Demi, I tried to use Scan2Cad to scan the alphabet of Eras Demi but it looks terrible like you were saying. Thanks.

RE: JPEG into an IGES?

What version of NX are you running? In newer versions of NX, all the installed fonts will show up in the insert text command (they will not show up in the drafting fonts, though I bet they will in a future release).

NX7.5...I did just notice that from another work station that has UG and MS Word, that UG recongnized all the fonts in MS Word, which had the desired font I was looking for. That is amazing, thanks for your help!

RE: JPEG into an IGES?

If this font is to be used to create geometry in your model, then you can use the Curve Text function which supports all of the TrueType/Open Type fonts you've got loaded on your system.

And starting with the next version of NX, you will also be able to use any of the system installed TrueType/Open Type fonts for regular Drafting notes and dimension text.

RE: JPEG into an IGES?

Yeah finally.  Hopefully those TT fonts in Drafting will cure some of the text shifting/formatting issues when exporting to DWG or PDF.
