A270 Sanitary Tube vs A312 Pipe with Sanitary Fittings

A270 Sanitary Tube vs A312 Pipe with Sanitary Fittings

A270 Sanitary Tube vs A312 Pipe with Sanitary Fittings

(OP)
If you are designing a piping system using sanitary fittings (Tri-Clover clamps for example) is it best to specify A270 sanitary tube or A312 SMLS SS Sch 5 or 10 pipe with mechanically polished finishes?  I only need 32 Ra microinch finish at moderate P & T food service.

My concern is that the sanitary ferrules seem more common for A270 tubes instead of IPS pipe.  WCB-Flow has pipe-to-tube adapters but seems to go against industry standard.

RE: A270 Sanitary Tube vs A312 Pipe with Sanitary Fittings

My experience is that tube size sanitary components are much more available and less expensive that pipe size. You may also find that a standard surface finish that exceeds your requirements may be more available and less expensive. Check with your local suppliers.
