Business Website
Business Website
(OP)
I am having a friend build a small website for my business and he wants a few pictures of the projects I have worked on over the years. I have been in private practice since 1986 and have many pictures of projects constructed since then. However, I was involved in many other projects with other local firms prior to that - some much larger.
My question is, how does the group feel about including pictures of projects prior to 1986 where they were not performed by my company, but were by me? Would you consider this an ethics violation?
I have enough pictures of projects after 1986 to fill the website. Just curious.

I agree with Pat and IRstuff. Just a notation is all you need. They're YOUR photos.
By the way...it is commonly done.

Good luck to you on your website.
RE: Business Website
My question is why do you want to include them and give free advertising to your competitor? You said you have enough on your own.
I have former co-workers that went on to work for themselves and they would not even mention on their Linked-in or website profiles where they used to work.
I'm only 3 years out doing it on my own so most of the big projects I did is with my old employer. I'm still giving them credit for my portfolio but once I accumulate enough, I would promptly omit any of my projects that are associated with them.
RE: Business Website
By including them are you pulling yourself up with their name or pulling them up with free advertising? Or even both? It's a judgement decision and varies with individual circumstances.

I've only been an engineer for 6 years, and working for less than 20. Only one company that I've worked for is still in business under the same name. The two engineering firms I worked for were both sold off. The one still in business is a family owned company I worked on and off for since I was 17, and it is still doing well.
