Hot-tap activity

(OP)
We are planning to perform a double hot-tap and stopple on 10" pipe SCH STD with AGO as a process fluid from a distillation tower. The pressure for the process is 54 psi and the temperature is 440°F. The hot-tap company asked us for a maximun velocity through the pipe of 4 feet/sec. We have an internal document called Guidelines for Hot-tap and it is recommended a velocity not greater than 6 ft/sec. Can anybody tell me why we should control the process fluid velocity and what could be the consequences of not doing that?

Best regards,
M.D

RE: Hot-tap activity

As you can see from the video the process is rather straight forward; I believe the velocity requirement is to prevent the posssibility of loss of cut out pieces.

Spud says; Meticulous effort and willingness to learn are honorable traits.
