Save Assembly and all parts in assembly as their part numbers

Save Assembly and all parts in assembly as their part numbers

Save Assembly and all parts in assembly as their part numbers

Does anyone have a functional Macro which will save an assembly and all the parts within the assembly in a new folder and change the file name of each to the "part number", as defined under custom properties?

I currently have an assembly with a bunch of parts which reference design tables. I wrote a macro in excel to alter the design tables thus altering the parts and assembly but now i need to save the new configuration to a new folder. While the excel macro is updating the design tables its easy to update the "part number", as defined by the custom properties. So if i could just reference this while remaining them it would make my life much easier.

Does pack and go help?

I am using Pack and Go right now. It works but it would be nice if i could avoid having to type in every part's name. Also, and this is somewhat unrelated, but the Pack and Go feature doesn't change the path directory to the new design tables. It will display that the design tables which the parts reference will go along on the pack and go but when you open the parts up, the link to the original DT stays intact. But that's a separate issue i would like to have a solution to. For now i wrote a macro which opens up all the parts in an assembly and deletes the design tables. It works but i dont understand why the Pack and GO doesn't do what its supposed to.

RE: Save Assembly and all parts in assembly as their part numbers

Grabbing the custom property info and using that as the filename should be relatively easy... and the code can be snagged from many macros out there.  I am not sure about the save as and renaming all the while maintaining links to the new filenames and new assemblies.  I have not needed a macro to do this... so I am not familiar with what is out there.

Here are some links to the good resources I am aware of to get macros:
