Can we use spray sprinkler on double rack storage?

RE: Can we use spray sprinkler on double rack storage?

spray sprinklers?  You can in rack sprinklers in double racks.

RE: Can we use spray sprinkler on double rack storage?

As much I appreciate this forum, I see yassenemzili asking for more engineering judgement and having issues with U.S. fire protection standards that require a NICET certified designer or registered P.E.

Everytime you answer, I believe your giving him answers he believes are adequate yet we have no deliverable base design context to work from.

Dangerous waters my friends...

from your point of view you are right, but i work in Morocco and there is no one that demand i NICET certification also there is no one that give that sertification in Morocco.
and for now i work on a project of installing sprinkler system on a big commercial surface (exhibition+storage in double rack)
if you want more information no problems

RE: Can we use spray sprinkler on double rack storage?

Ok then, what are you storing?  What is the % of plastic in it, and how is it configured;  palletized encapsulated non-encapsulated open bin etc?   Then, what NFPA 13 definition does the rack type fall under:   Double row, multiple row, solid shelving, open shelving, etc?.  Then what are the aisle separation distances?   Also what is the storage height and what is the roof height?  Is the roof steel open bar joists?

All that and more are required for you to successfully design the system.   And yet the question was "can I use spray sprinklers?".  You see there is a wide difference between the question and the answer.

Class III and IV commodity
Palletized on double rack
for the distance of aisle i will oblige the right one because the building is not yet built
roof height  10.2 meter
storage height 8 meter
roof: concreet with beems 125cm, 40cm and 20cm height

RE: Can we use spray sprinkler on double rack storage?

1. Are commodities Encapsulated commodities?
2. Assuming the shelves are NOT solid; correct?

You might want to look at Figure 6.3.4.1.1.1(h) or (i), if you choose to protect with control mode density/area sprinkler protection.

ESFR req'ts are Table 16.3.3.1.  Read all of 16.3.3, and all of 8.12, and review against the roof design to see if ESFR will work economically, etc.   K-14&16.8's have to be 35.6 to 15.2cm below the ceiling, so that should work with 20cm deep concrete beams, but it depends on fitting 'take out' lengths, and I don't have that deep of knowledge.  One of the NICET guys may can chime in.

Look at 16.1.11 for flue space requirements.  And read of Chapter 12 and all the other applicable sections of Chapter 16 before starting the design.

Good luck
