Pin Gauge Use

Pin Gauge Use

Pin Gauge Use

(OP)
Can someone point me to where a detailed example of how to use a pin gauge? I am setting up an SOP and want to reference something outside of our company to show standard practice/use.

RE: Pin Gauge Use

Almost too simple to explain.  "The size of a hole is defined by the largest pin gage that can be fully inserted and extracted in that hole using only a light finger grip of the sides of that gage.  Pressing on the end of the pin gage constitutes forcing and shall not be used"

Note that this opnly applies to the standard gauge pins, properly called "Minus" pins.  Reason for the Minus is that you cannot put a 0.150" pin into a 0.150" hole.  Minus pin sets are made with each pin, IIRC, 0.0001" undersize. Allows just enough clearance for the gage pin to go into the hole.
