Out of memory error issue
Out of memory error issue
(OP)
Hello I'm wondering if there is a check list of items to check standard settings in the installation setup? Nx seems to be crashing quite often (out of memory error) and updating drawing views are painfully with larger assemblies. Our PCs are HP Xeon 2.67GHz x 4 with 4 GB of Ram and Nvidia Quadro FX 1800 running Windows XP Pro service pack 3. We are still running XP Pro as we also still use I-deas from time to time. Any settings I could check to help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

RE: Out of memory error issue
If you are running 64bit XP, and running out of memory, then I would say it's a simple case of needing to add more ram. For 32 bit systems, sorry to say but I would try to get a new 64 bit workstation.
Also, check to see that you have SMP enabled with UGII_SMP_ENABLE but turn off Hyper Threading. Unless it has changed, NX doesn't like hyper threading. As for SMP, NX can make some use of multiple cores. I can't recall the entire list of features taking advantage of it but boolean functions and silhouettes come to mind. NX CAM makes solid use of SMP; I can peg 3 cores to generate manufacturing operations and leave 1 core open so I can actually use the desktop at the same time. If I use all four cores for CAM then my system is sluggish like the old days running a single core computer and a gig of ram. To check if you have SMP enabled you can search your log file for UGII_SMP_ENABLE, it should have a value of 1.
