Specification for 33kv, 300kVar distributed capacitor banks

Specification for 33kv, 300kVar distributed capacitor banks

(OP)
Dear Collegues,

I am John from Uganda. I am requesting for technical specifications for a 300kVAr capacitor bank.

We are extending our main grid and studies have shown that there is need to add capacitor banks along the line in order to improve the voltage profile as these are rural extensions.

During the study, we simulated the power factor along sections of a 2270km 33kv proposed extension which droped from 0.9 to 0.75. These are rural extensions with minimal loading (estimated at about 1.5MVA). It is with this reasoning that we decided to install two distributed capacitor banks rated at abou 300kVar each, along the line.

Is this a right decision??
If so, what technical parameters that we should highlight in our tender document as we shall implement this project as turnkey.

Thanks
John

RE: Specification for 33kv, 300kVar distributed capacitor banks

Is it really 2270 km?  That's a very long 33 kV line.  Did your simulation include the capacitance of the line?  The capacitance of an overhead line this long would be over 2000 kVAR.

sorry, the distance is 270km.
