Hunting diesel engine (6.4MW MAK engine)

(OP)
Hi all,
Of late our 6.4MW diesel engine started hunting. The unit is being controlled by an electronic 723 governor. Could you please shed some light as to what might be some of the possible causes.
PS I am more electrically inclined.
Thanks

RE: Hunting diesel engine (6.4MW MAK engine)

The 723 being a digital electronic governor is unlikely to be the cause of your problems, but stranger things have happened. First you need to do the usual fault finding of controls external to the governor.
Check the mag-pick up for signal quality, you may have two pick ups so check both of them.
Check the actuator linkage for loose fittings
Is there turbo pressure limiting on this?, check the pressure signal feedback.
What is the actuator, an EG? or and EGB with mechanical ball head back up governor, and when was it last serviced.  If some one has been inadvertently playing with the actuator the mechanical governor and the electric governor can end up fighting each other.
Cheers Niallnz
