Stub Ends EFW
Stub Ends EFW
(OP)
Dear All,
As per Project Spec. we have to supply welded stub ends (SA403WP304L) for vessels, now we have received the EFW NOT ERW.
Cleint want us to show the codes/Compare which says the EFW is better than ERW.
Any opinion ?

RE: Stub Ends EFW
ERW is electric resistance welded product form, while EFW is electric fusion welded product form.
Diferences - ERW requires no filler metal, it is done by local electric current which heats up the ends of the formed plate or strip under pressure to fuse into a pipe or tube product form.
EFW can be one or more fusion welding processes (SAW or GTAW) where the addition of filler metal is necessary.
Look at material specification SA 403 to make sure the requirements for examination of the long seam are completed.
The Codes/Stanards in the US do not rank or evaluate between these two processes, which process is better. The Codes/Standards only provide process acceptance and additional requirements to be followed for using a specific process.
