Beam Links Spacing

Beam Links Spacing

Beam Links Spacing

(OP)
Hello All,

ACI 318 specifies maximum spacing between links along the beam span,
however there is no specified value i could find for spacing of legs perpendicular to the span, what do you normally use and based on what?

Regards

RE: Beam Links Spacing

ahmed,

normally this is only an issue if your beam is much wider than its depth or if its primary source of load is axial. Can you give a bit more information on your particular situation?

RE: Beam Links Spacing

Usually for beame wider than 50cm you would have to put a second stirr-up.
This is based on Eurocodes and the relative National Annexes and is given as st,max

RE: Beam Links Spacing

Here in the UK, the maximum longitudinal spacing of links in a beam is 0.75 x d.

Any tension bar cannot be more than 150m from a vertical leg of a link perpendicular to the span.

Similar provisions exist in EC2.

My beam is 1500mm Wide X 700 Deep , loads are vertical loads resulting only in bending and shear.

I normally provide one keep the spacing perpendicular to span around 300 mm as common practice but could not find any reference in ACI 318

RE: Beam Links Spacing

Valleyboy,
If I understood your post you mean that for a 40cm wide beam you would need at least an enclosing link and an inner link .
I believe the stmax=0.75d #9.2.2 EN1992.01.01 refers to the maximum distance of vertical links in the beam's width and not along its length.
