journal bearings (white metal,brass,etd)

journal bearings (white metal,brass,etd)

(OP)
please can someone tell me the process of changing a journal bearing(white metal). From the blueing,to how to check clearences, how to lead the bearing and where to put the lead and is the measurment thickness or width. A accurate step by step reply will be grateful.

RE: journal bearings (white metal,brass,etd)

(OP)
Iam installing a white metal bearing to a p a fan. I want to know how to do the correct clearance checks using feeler guages, When leading does the lead go on top of the bearing journal and when the measurment is taken do you half it to find the full clearence? When blueing is it approx 80% of the bearing that needs contact.

RE: journal bearings (white metal,brass,etd)

I believe you will find that journal clearances are typically diametral clearance, which the crushed lead will measure directly.

Is this new bearing from the original manufacturer ?
Is the size and condition of the journal serviceable, according to the manufacturer's specifications?

I'd also expect that a replacement bearing would be made to size, and accurately enough that the bluing check would only be a check.   The 80% "contact" might not be correct in the circumferential direction for more sophisticated bearing profiles. Again the bearing manufacturer should say. Are you on speaking terms with them?
