220 VAC 50 Hz Testing
220 VAC 50 Hz Testing
(OP)
I have the need to run various tests on some of our products sold at my work. We are starting to get more envloved with 220 volt 50 Hz applications. I need to be able to test various units at 50 Hz. The HP of the motors in the assemblies range from 1/3 HP to 2 HP. What equipment and how much $$ will I be looking at to perform this task? My background is pneumatics so this is a bit out of my area.

If this suggestion is completely ridiculous, RF it out of here.

It might be much easier/understandable to get a 10kW 50Hz gas generator and replace the engine with a VFD driven motor.
Alternatively you can buy what's called a "two bearing" generator and run it with a VFD motor to provide 220/50.

Or, are you looking for the full-bill equipment from some commercial test fixture place bearfan?

If you go this route bearfan, you may find that the voltage at 3000 RPM (50) Hz is only about 200 Volts. No problem, most of these small generators use capacitor excitation. Whatever value of capacitor you find, purchase another capacitor of 10% value of the existing capacitor and wire it in parallel with the existing capacitor.
I would suggest about a generator of 6000 Watts for a 2 HpP motor and a drive motor of 7.5 Hp to 10 Hp. A large flywheel will reduce frequency dip on starting.
This will be good for mechanical functionality checks. For electrical approvals testing you may need something more expensive.
