Hardware recommendation for Ansys 13

Hardware recommendation for Ansys 13

Hardware recommendation for Ansys 13

(OP)
Hi all,

I'm trying to build an ansys system with $3k budget. I have been searching google for help, but not much. So, here I am.  And I know 3k won't get me much, but I would like to know

1) which CPU (I7 or Xeon) is better suited for ansys
2) and why?
3) Which video (ATI or nVIDIA) is better suited for ansys
4) and why?

thank you for your assistance,
Kevin

RE: Hardware recommendation for Ansys 13

Kevin,

Without the MPC license your limited to two cores.
I would look into that first and find out if you can even benefit from multiple cores.
Don't know much about the I7 vs Xeon.
I'm currently just using a dual core E8500 for all of our Ansys needs.

I would suggest an Nvidia card.
Better compatibility and less possible headaches down the road.
(ATI driver software is a pain)

RE: Hardware recommendation for Ansys 13

Hi,
I don't know if this will answer your needs, but I can only tell the best on the workstations we are using in office:
Hp Z800 with 2x Xeon, 8 cores (need 6x HPC licenses to fully use all the cores of all the processors), 24 GB RAM, nVidia Quadro FX3800, 2x 10000rpm HD in Raid striped configuration.
HP workstations are highly configurable.

However, Ansys runs like a charm also on my home computer which is a i5-750 with 8GB RAM and an nVidia Quadro FX1700...
The size of the problems I can run is obviously not the same !!!

Bye!
