Scanned sketch to model NX7

Scanned sketch to model NX7

Scanned sketch to model NX7

I've got a scanned sketch Scale 1:1@300dpi and need to do something similar to this

But I can simply not find the correct way of getting the image into NX7.

Any tips ?

Cheers
Michael

RE: Scanned sketch to model NX7

You can bring it in as a raster image, this will allow you to see it while modelling and change scale etc.

RE: Scanned sketch to model NX7

IIRC, isn't a Shape Studio license required to get an image into Modeling?  This may have changed since I last used NX (NX6).  Once the image is placed in Modeling, you have to set your shading to Studio Display in order to get the image to show up, otherwise it will appear as a planar sheet equal in size to the image.

Raster images can be brought into Drafting (without Shape Studio) and curves can be created by tracing over the image.  When finished, those planar curves can be exported to Modeling or edited via View Dependant Edit.  All curves sent from Drafting to Modeling will more than likely end up on the XY plane, so keep that in mind as well.

Thanks Mark for a quick reply.

But how do I bring it in as a raster image ? And in scale 1:1 ?

Thanks Tim.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. It's 10:30 pm here.

RE: Scanned sketch to model NX7

View - Visualization - Raster Image, Set the size that the tiff* should become in your model, select the tiff image, if you have a  decent graphics card, set the max texture size "some higher" than default. ( = the sharpness / detail in the picture. Can be changed later.)
Press the "Create Raster Image" then position / resize the image using the drag handles. Hit OK when finished.

Note that you get a Feature that can be edited like other features, moved scaled etc.

* Only Tiff images can be used. If the image looks strange, make sure that the image is 24 bit color.

Another thing to note is if you are tracing in modelling it's worth turning off highlight selection on roll over in preferences-selection.

RE: Scanned sketch to model NX7

Place the raster image on a separate layer and set that layer to "Visible only" , i.e non selectable. Else the surface that the image is mapped to will highlight since it is a regular surface.

Thanks for all your tips.

Worked GREAT !!

Trickiest bit was to create the tiff image.

Thanks again.
