Axial Load on Ball Bearing

Axial Load on Ball Bearing

I'm looking at this machine and it seams like it was designed to take about 40 lbs axially through a SKF6309 bearing or equivalent (Single Row Deep groove Ball Bearing 100mm OD, 45mm ID, 19mm Width).  Machine is arranged vertically instead of horizontally with no bearing modification.  Is this loading exemptible at 3600 RPM? And if it seems unacceptable what is the hunch guesstemate efficiency loss in this configuration whould be?

40lb = around 180N.  A 6309 is more than capable of taking this axial load.  If anything, the bearing is too big.  Losses can be calculated on SKF website.

Thanks, just wanted to go a hunch.  It seems like they took the machine that was spinning fan assembly horizontally and made it vertical without any modification to bearings, and now the fans and shaft just apply ~40 lb force between the outer and inner race faces of the bearing.
