Cable Trench

Cable Trench

(OP)
Hi there,

Can you run 1kV,teck 90 3C#1 AWG power cable, a 4/0 AWG grounding conductor and Instrumentation Cables (in a 4" rigid PVC conduit) in the same trench as mechanical hot and cold water pipes?

RE: Cable Trench

You may get away with a cold water line depending on the AHJ, but field experience is that when the insulation degrades on the hot water pipe, the cables will be subjected to a higher than designed ambient temperature.

RE: Cable Trench

With hot water pipes your cables will be derated. Also they may damage the insulation over the time and you may have to replace the cable completely.
