transform no move in 7.5

transform no move in 7.5

Let me just say that NX is so much better now that we have move instead of translate or reposition.

Case in point: Sometimes I deal with horseshoes and depthcharges meaning things don't need always need to be exact. When I need to move something to be about 5-8mm from where it was, I would hit translate x=-1 then poke move, move, move, until it was about
right. Now its preview type 5, double click or click, backspace type 6, double click or click, backspace type 7, double click or click, backspace type 8. And now I want to copy that some object and move again? sorry aint gonna happen, you gotta reselect every object again! this is BS! Is there a stay selected option at least?

RE: transform no move in 7.5

If all that you're doing is moving "...something to be about 5-8mm from where it was..." why not just select the X-axis on the Dynamic handle, set the snap distance to 1mm and simply DRAG it until you've moved it "5-8mm"?

As for providing a 'retain selected' option, that's being looked into.

RE: transform no move in 7.5

Hello rdln,

Yes newer NX has a Move Object command(a better one) but Transform command is still there. Edit>Transform. You can make a keyboard shortcut if you want.

Now the catch is, at first attemt it wont show the Translate option.

Let me be more decsriptive.
1. Edit>Transform
2. Select the objects
3. Select scale, accept the default point(OK) and default scale (1.00)(OK)
4. Transformation type
5. Bingo!! you have your old style Transform Dialog.

Note that I just opened a PR to close the 'back door' thumbsdown

"Dynamic handle, set the snap distance to 1mm and simply DRAG it until you've moved it "5-8mm"?"

That worked the first time, this time the solid's csys does not give me the direction that I want to move in, in this case is there a snap handles to WCS? I dont see it there.

RE: transform no move in 7.5

There is another sneaky way to get to Transform -> Scale (in NX6), but I'm not sure it made its way into NX7.  I sure hope so if there isn't any other way to scale curve geometry yet.

Quote (rdln):

is there a snap handles to WCS?
Right click on the cube that represents the WCS origin and a menu will pop up with the options to align or snap to the WCS.

RE: transform no move in 7.5

John,

Please open the window before you close the back door.

I mean
It would be nice if you raise a PR too for "Keep Selected" option.

It's NOT a PR, but rather an ER.

Which I recommend that you contact GTAC and have them open that ER in your name.
