Calorific Values

Calorific Values

(OP)
In terms of fire engineering, what kind of data can you get from using the calorific values of materials in a compartment beside just for calculating fire loads?

Can I go any further? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

RE: Calorific Values

These things I think are much influenced by the specific way of designing for fire design, i.e., the code or model code oor specific procedure being applied. Just perusing some of the info on fire protection I have, it results that in one of such codes, the degree of fire resistance required is related to the quotient between the fire load and a coefficient given for the case. This (called RF) degree is the degree of resistance to fire of both the structural parts AND elements of compartimentation; so it is clear that it will influence both the wall requirements at the limit of the building and the structural elements there.

In short, within some code frame, it is established that for proper adjudication of the resistance to fire of structural and non structural elements at the perimeter of some building or part of it, the the fire load nearby (that, by the way, needs not be inmediate to the wall, could be 5 meters away) influences the required resistance to fire, and hence the design of such parts.

RE: Calorific Values

It is also pertinent to say that in normal application this kind of requirement will be mostly applied from inside to the exterior; i.e., to protect other areas of your works from fire on another, or to protect from a fire in your building adjacent property.

It would be rare and maybe impractical for any local or even national regulation to ask the neighbor to provide fire loads for a project in our property. Normally within these regulation frame he himself will have to have to protect in the same way our property from a fire on his'
