Foam Machine

Foam Machine

Foam Machine

(OP)
Hey guys, I'm building a foam machine out of simple materials. The general design is an air vac pumping air into a large drum filled with water and foam solution. The opening of the drum is covered with either a towel or weed blocker to allow for the mixture to create foam as it passes through the top. The foam creation is substantial, however only for about 10 to 15 minutes. This is where my problem lies. After about 15 minutes, the foam creation dissipates, while the level of soap and water is adequate. It seems as if the foam just begins to build up in the drum and it is unable to be forced out. I would like to use this general design, so please comment with any suggestions or advice on how to improve my project so as to make it long lasting. Thanks so much for any help you can provide.

RE: Foam Machine

from your description, it may be the towel or weed blocker needs to kept fresh, if the foam is passing through it. Try replacing it as time passes and see f that keeps it going.

that seems plausible, and will be tested, its just that we've recently tried the weed blocker to yield the same dissipating results. I'm just not sure how the "used" weed block is much different from a new one. The weed block retains little to no water. Please, respond with any new suggestions or advice, thanks.

RE: Foam Machine

Maybe the mesh clogs with soap, just put on a fresh one when it stops workimg, simple elimination. Then we move to something else

RE: Foam Machine

Are you bubbling air through the liquid and then through the fabric? It may be that you need to keep the liquid level in the drum constant.

My conjecture is that you are creating coarse foam by bubbling through the liquid. This carries adequate liquid up to the fabric screen where a fine foam is created. As the liquid level falls less liquid is carried to the screen so less foam is produced.
