I am wanting to do some charpy test for welds on X52-X60 material.  ASME references SA-370 but don't have access to this standard.  To what temp should I test?

RE: Charpy temp

ASTM/ASME A/SA 370 refers to testing of steel products, and does not provide test temperatures. The CVN impact test temperatures are either provided by the code of construciton or by engineering specification.

We don't have this requirement specified in any of our engineering specifications.  Where can I find guidance or recommended test temps?

RE: Charpy temp

mteg;
What is the code of construction for this application? Is it ASME B31.1, 31.3? This is whaere you would find the necessary test temperatures.

RE: Charpy temp

API 5L has Supplemental Requirement 5 for testing procedures; but the purchaser still needs to define requirements.

RE: Charpy temp

According to API 5L X52-X60 PSL 2 these can be tested at -23 C and it is written in API 5L 44th eddition

RE: Charpy temp

The purchaser is required to give this data along with the acceptance criteria. Even if you test to -23°C, what would be the minimum acceptable for (1) specimen or the average of (3)? You wouldn't know this without the purchaser defining this for you.
