Pump House Doors

Pump House Doors

(OP)
Hi, I've read a few threads and found them helpful, thought I'd give the collective intelligence of the internet a try.

I'm working on a pump house with doors on hinges (can't use sliding doors due to obstructions) in an area with high wind forces.  The doors are about 6m x 4m each and heavy but can be opened and closed by a person.  The problem is that the wind forces can take the door out of a person's hands so it requires some automation and safety to get it to work.  I can think of a few ideas but what I'm mainly looking for are companies who do this sort of custom actuated door system for huge doors.  I'm working in Canada but shipping costs aren't a huge issue, so anywhere in North America would be great.

RE: Pump House Doors

Korin10,

You might not find an off-the-shelf solution tailored to large doors.  It should not be hard to adapt a standard gearmotor to this.

Since the mechanism will have to be capable of high force, you will have to be careful about the possibility of injuring someone - mechanical or optical interlocks will probably be needed.

Yeah, safety is the biggest issue.  The solution has evolved much since and we've moved away from swinging hinged doors which simplifies things.  Thanks for the tip for the interlocks though, I hadn't thought of that.
