Can anyone tell me the Allowable Total and Live loads for a 24LA08 bar joist spanning 44'-0"?  (circa 1965)

RE: 24LA08 joist

You must be reading it wrong. Sounds like a 24LH08.SDI has info on capacity of historic joists, if it's different from today's load tables.

I am reading it correctly on the plan; maybe the draftsman wrote it incorrectly?  If you have the allowable loads, I can compare the capacity with other joists on the plan (300plf total and 240plf Live +/-)

RE: 24LA08 joist

Based on a 1961 spec my old SJI Manual shows max reaction = 8892.
At 44' - plf = 327 and roof construction only.

Go to steeljoist.org for more info

Thanks, Mike.  Is the 327 plf the total load?  Does it also list the allowable live load?

RE: 24LA08 joist

It says total??!!  Didn't break it down back then - I guess.
