2 In 1 Out Transmission

2 In 1 Out Transmission

2 In 1 Out Transmission

(OP)
Hello,
I am trying to design an automated test stand that has 2 counter rotating inputs and 1 output.  I was wondering if there exists an off the shelf gearbox that could select between the 2 input shafts to drive the output shaft.

RE: 2 In 1 Out Transmission

How high is up??

A bit more info is needed.

Thanks for the response.  My requirements are more along the lines of switching between the 2 inputs into a common electric motor.  Style G has the inputs opposed, but in my application they would be parallel.

For more details, I have two counter rotating chain driven sprockets that need to output to this generator.  Space is an issue, so the two ideas right now are to somehow isolate each sprocket on the shared output shaft or find this magic gear box to select from 2 shafts and output to the generator.

RE: 2 In 1 Out Transmission

Would not an automobile differential do this, presuming the "off" input would be a stalled/stopped input, or backdriving it would not harm whatever the shaft is attached to.  If the latter is a requirement, you will need to provide a clutch mechanism to disconnect whichever input mechanism is not being used.

RE: 2 In 1 Out Transmission

You may consider a stepped shaft with your two sprockets mounted on overrunning clutches.  The inputs could not be counter rotating though.

Depending on your power requirements Superior might have a
solution.
I would give Superior Gearbox a call with your requirements.
