I'm carrying out an FEA on a steel structure and I'm having trouble determining the allowable stress of the material for our loading situation. It will be under combined seismic and thermal loading, and the steel has a yield strength of 33000 psi (ASTM A1008 Grade 33 Type 2). I have looked through a few standards and the NBC but they have not specified the maximum allowable stress. Is there something I am missing?
