ETAP 7 PV Bus

ETAP 7 PV Bus

ETAP 7 PV Bus

(OP)
I am new to ETAP and trying to set up a small example network.  It's really small with 3 buses,i.e. one each of  slack, PV and Load.  The problem I have is with the generator connected to the PV bus.  I tried to set to at P=60MW and V=1 p.u. Now V is correct, but P from the generator is always 0.  Q is supplied OK.  I have in the past used Neplan 5 and it specifically requests P and V values from the generator.  Please help.

RE: ETAP 7 PV Bus

Check if your slack is not supplying all the Power. I am not familiar with Etap but with the software I use, I will usually set one of my generator as slack especially on small networks.

RE: ETAP 7 PV Bus

Make sure the load bus actually have a load. If not the generator will deliver 0 power.

Yes, I have one G1 generator as slack and it is indeed supplying all the real power (plus losses) and some reactive power also.  But what I really want to happen is for generator to produce the first 60 MW and the rest from the slack.  Indeed Bus 2 has a load of over 200MW as well as some lagging MVARS.

RE: ETAP 7 PV Bus

How did you set your generator? Constant power, voltage support?

I set up the Generator for Voltage Control, which means that I should be asked for the Power and Voltage as I would expect from a PV bus.  But what ever power for P that I enter as an operating value is overridden by P=0 when I do the power flow.  I go through the same process with NEPLAN and and I get expected results.  Also can someone tell me how I enter "academic" kind of information (plain reactances, resistances per Km) for Lines rather than defined systems like "PIRELLI".

Thanks

RE: ETAP 7 PV Bus

Dg are usually set for unity power factor. Try setting it to constant power @ PF=1.0.

Thanks all; I have now answered my own question with this Etap 7.  On the Ratings pop up there is a table which needs to be filled "Generator Categories" into which you fill in the Design Megawatts, Normal Megawatts, Shutdown Megawatts, etc.  Only can you successfully enter Operating values in the space below this table.  On my query on "Academic Lines", the Etap also has an element called "Impedance" which allows you to enter R & X values (in ohm or p.u.)
