How can I stop the feature tree expanding an assembly

How can I stop the feature tree expanding an assembly

How can I stop the feature tree expanding an assembly

(OP)
I have an assembly that contains a sub-assembly with hundreds of parts. Every time I click on the sub-assembly i.e. to select a face for mating, the feature tree expands out to show every little part - pages of it!. I really don't need that so is there a way of temporarily stopping it from doing that? Maybe the rule would apply to all assemblies in the tree but that wouldn't be a problem. At the moment I spend too much time collapsing the tree.

Ooops

Go to Tools > Options > System Options > Feature Manager and deselect Scroll selected item into view

Many thanks CBL. Obvious when you see it but then sometimes we can't see something for looking!

I like to think that even if I ask a daft question someone somewhere will see it and think "I didn't know that either!" and learn something from it.

On the other hand I might be deluding myself!

Also, if you go to the top of your tree and do a Shift-C the whole tree will collapse.

No need to go to the top, Dan. As long as the FM has focus, the Shift C will work.

I did not know about the "SHIFT C" option to collapse the tree, thanks for the heads up!

Mmmmm.....still not really what I'm after. I unticked the "Scroll selected item into view" and of course it no longer comes into view and expands it's own part of the tree like an exploding Death Star. But...when selecting a part in the assembly it no longer scrolls the tree to show the selected part. Obvious, you might say.

However, having it scroll into view is useful. Having it expand as well is not. Is there a way of still having it scroll into view but without the tree expanding by 200 lines at the same time??

By the way, I was familiar with SHIFT C collapsing the tree. I was using it every few minutes because of this particular problem.
