We have lots of piping (Insulated & Non Insulated) in our process plant, more than 9000 in number.

Issues of CUI inspection & remedial action there of, keep pressing us to evolve some effecitve inspection methodology.

1. Please suggest the best technique to inspect huge amount of piping to locate CUI following principle of RBI API 580 / 581.

2. What should be the inspection frequency?

3. How Inspection class to be decided?

4. How to approach the inaccesible piping, that is always a challenge?

5. Please suggest some effective piping software that can process and store Inspection data to give us corrosion trends.

Thanks....!

Link provided is indeed very good article on CUI. However, it does not talk about a CUI inspection technique called PEC (Pulsed Eddy Current) Technique. It claimes to measure pipe wall thickness over the insulation effectively. (Please see the PEC literature attached from Sonovation).

Any expereince, any one has here on PEC?? If yes, please share the real benefits achieved.

RE: CUI Inspection Methodology

PEC and or Incotesst are very effective and can be used with the insulation and cladding in place for most application. It is a volumetric method but can detect wall loss.
