Best type Computer for Solidworks 2010?

Best type Computer for Solidworks 2010?

(OP)
(Maybe not the right place, but I always get great answers here)

Looking for a decent home computer system (with monitor) for under $1000 to run Solidworks 2010.

Anyone familiar with Dell Inspiron I560-565NBK (3GB memory)? or 3.2GHz Intel Core i3-550M processor and 6GB?

RE: Best type Computer for Solidworks 2010?

For $1000 you could do much better than a Dell Inspiron I560-565NBK.
It has an integrated graphics card, and apparently no option of an upgrade to an approved card.

Take a look at the specs listed by Charles Culp at https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/42836?start=0&tstart=0
If you don't want to build your own, use those specs as a comparison when shopping for a pre-built system.

RE: Best type Computer for Solidworks 2010?

If you are working with large assemblys or conversion of step models into solidworks i recomend minimum 8Gb of ram and a 64bit system.
Since Solidworks sucks at writing multithreaded software i would say that dual core with higher frequency gives you more speed then quadcore with low freq will. we have quad core and most of the processor power is playing solitaire while one core has 100% work load sadly. (Simulation has gotten better at multithreading)

Google 'Workstation Specialists'. They build workstations specifically for CAD applications and offer reasonable backup as well. Their website will better explain than me...

We bought one for work: medium-high spec. for around £1k and so far it's doing everything I need and some. Only thing is, I dont know if they have US branches! Best of luck.

Tower or laptop?  I recently bought both.  Here's the research that I did and the results: https://forum.solidworks.com/message/219766#219766 and https://forum.solidworks.com/message/222894#222894.  I wouldn't get an i3 for the simple fact that it is already outdated technology.  Will it run SW?  Sure.  Also, the link from CBL above is a good one.  Check out SolidBox and Boxx Technologies as well.  They are over $1k, but the system specs will give you something to run with.
