EF Cable Detail

EF Cable Detail

EF Cable Detail

(OP)
Good morning to all. The attached detail was sent to me by the mechanical engineer on one of the projects that is under construction. The fan was approved and installed for lower wind speed than is required by code. The fan supplier is suggesting adding the four cables so that it meets the required wind speed.

Regards,
Lutfi

RE: EF Cable Detail

His fan - his call.  Just get it in writing.

RE: EF Cable Detail

would the steel decking handle the load, I would make them weld a angle between joists/beams, and anchor to that. Provide you the loads so you can check uplift, bending in the angle.

RE: EF Cable Detail

That looks like the support for the cable at the deck would just rotate at the bottom.  I don't think I like that.

Thanks for the input. I do not like the detail for the same reason UcfSE stated. I asked them to change the detail by welding the vertical pipe to larger base pate and then fasten it to the deck.

Regards,
Lutfi

RE: EF Cable Detail

Did the fan supplier or ME provide any calcs showing the reactions? I would expect the cables to be attached higher.

RE: EF Cable Detail

The support seems to be too flimsy.
