Could you elaborate on the issues, are we talking a show stopper ?
Our main use of Excel is part families,

The real issue is that more and more places inside of NX are depending either on linking TO Excel allowing data to be exchanged or using a spawned session of Excel as a sort of data entry/editing task environment, and so a lot of testing has to be done and occasionally slight changes have to be made (as it appears to be the case this time around) so that both the newest version of Excel and the older versions that we need to continue to support will work as expected.
