Pipe rack estimate

Pipe rack estimate

Pipe rack estimate

(OP)
Friends,

Can anyone give a general thumbrule for the following Pipe rack query which came to my mind while doing a proposal,

(1) Which is costlier, a single layer pipe rack with greater width or a multi layer pipe rack with less width.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

BK

RE: Pipe rack estimate

My opinion:

The single layer is more costly.

Reasons:
1.) Real estate, even in the plant has a value and the single layer will use more real estate.

2.) Structural Beam, The single layer will require a heavier beam to span the longer distance and carry the total load of all the lines.

Thank you. Your reasoning was useful to me.

Thanks again !!

RE: Pipe rack estimate

Just another note to add. Shipped-loose vs. Assembled. If you're bidding a pipe rack, shipped-loose components and pre-fab steel is much cheaper, plus it's easier to ship.

It's much more expensive for your client at the end destination (field costs are always higher), but if you're doing the proposal and trying to win a job, and there are no specifications to how modular it needs to be....just a thought.

RE: Pipe rack estimate

Also - don't forget to allow for "additions" and repairs in your design!!

RE: Pipe rack estimate

MecEJoe - are you saying that modular is not the way to go?

RE: Pipe rack estimate

What do you expect to learn from such a question?  This is far too  general a question for answers that are so highly dependent on project specifics, of which you don't mention ANY.  The answer for a brownfield refinery expansion would be totally different than the answer for an offshore platform, which would be totally different for a food processing building.
