Can pump failure cause motor trip?
Can pump failure cause motor trip?
(OP)
My centrifugal pump cannot pump the fluid but it can buid pressure at discharge(I think it might be the shut off head since the pump performance drop is possible). But then the motor trip, pump shutdown. Can anybody tell me that why the motor trip?
Is it becuase off motor need to generate more torque or any reason?
thanks

Due to over current or due to some pump protection devices such as a flow switch or pressure switch?

What type of pump and size of the motor.?
Normal centrifugal( radial and mixed flow) pump will not overload the motor at closed valve condition.
Are you running the pump is reverse rotation? Are you getting the correct shut off pressure at the discharge as per curve?
Any mechanical problem??
Can you rotate the pump shaft with freely.?

Also, like he said check rotation, its very possible that the phases got messed up when reinstalling the pump.
If its heat and its tripping due to heat and not overcurrent directly at the breaker, it could have been shotty electrical work.
Is the coupling slipping? It could be stripped and motor has no mechanical load except friction from stripped coupling to motor shaft contact.
RE: Can pump failure cause motor trip?
Have you checked line voltage.
Checked for loose power connections.
Checked pump / motor free (easy) to rotate by hand.

RE: Can pump failure cause motor trip?
If the pump is building pressure but there is no flow, there is probably a blockage in the flow or the pump is not developing enough head to overcome the static head.
Is this a new installation? Has any work been done on the system recently?
Did the pump work properly at one time in the present application?
What is the rated motor current?
What is the running current?
What is the setting on the overload devices?
