RTU load on existing roof

RTU load on existing roof

RTU load on existing roof

(OP)
New Roof Top Unit load on an existing roof would be considered dead load, right?

RE: RTU load on existing roof

Yes.

But the snow on top of the RTU, and the drifted snow around the RTU, would be live load.

RE: RTU load on existing roof

Dave,
Do you interpret ASCE7 section 7.8 to say that for most mechanical units (less than 15' long), drift can be ignored?

Thanks

RE: RTU load on existing roof

Yes.
