(OP)
I want to instal a metrology syytem to measure the -/+ 4mm axial movemnet of a cylindrical head (diameter 5 cmm). The required measurement resollution is around 50-200 nanometers.
The plateform will be installed in a temperature stable environment (+/- 10 mK).
which options can I have in the market? Any suggession?
Thanks

RE: measurement of -/+ 4mm axial movemnet with high resolution

Laser interferometer would easily meet that accuracy spec provided the 'stable temperature' isn't nice and stable at a temperature so hot or cold that it would kill the instrument.

Check out Renishaw for a start, Google after that.

Mechanical contact? Use an LVDT. Range and resolution easily met.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

LVDT = Differential Transformer
