Machine Descriptions
(OP)
Hi,
I am in the process of completing a questionnaire for a client on which types of machines we have in our workshop, but I am confused by the terms he is using.
For instance, he refers separately to a 'Horizontal Machining Centre' and a 'Horizontal Milling and Turning Machine' which I understand to be the same thing, a Horizontal Lathe?
Please can someone briefly explain the following terms:
1. Horizontal Machining Centres
2. Horizontal Milling and Turning Machines
3. Horizontal Boring Machines
4. Machining Centres Minimum/Maximum Pallet Size
5. Vertical Machining Centres
6. Vertical Milling and Turning Machines
7. Vertical Boring Machines
Thank you.

RE: Machine Descriptions
CNC machine with a horizontal spindle, workpiece is mounted to a table/pallet, may have a pallet shuttle
2. Horizontal Milling and Turning Machines
CNC lathe with a cross slide machining head, workpiece rotates with a horizontal axis for the turning and the spindle locks for the milling head to function
3. Horizontal Boring Machines
Ceterline of workpiece is horizontal and the workpieces rotates as it is being cut
4. Machining Centres Minimum/Maximum Pallet Size
The size of the workcube for your horizontal/vertical milling machines, may be shuttle pallets
5. Vertical Machining Centres
CNC machine with a vertical spindle, workpiece is mounted to a table/pallet, may have a pallet shuttle
6. Vertical Milling and Turning Machines
Never seen one, but...CNC lathe with a cross slide machining head, workpiece rotates with a vertical axis for the turning and the spindle locks for the milling head to function
7. Vertical Boring Machines
Ceterline of workpiece is vertical and the workpieces rotates as it is being cut
