Flat pattern from complex surface

Flat pattern from complex surface

Flat pattern from complex surface

(OP)
Hi

I have a curved geometry that I would like turn into a flat pattern.
I am using WF 5.0 preproduction.
I have tried to use Flattern Form without success.
The curve is created from Boundary Blend that have been Thicken.

RE: Flat pattern from complex surface

Is your geometric shape one that could be made from sheet metal? That is a requirement for a flat pattern. Also, does your part have a uniform thickness.

RE: Flat pattern from complex surface

As far as I know, Pro/Engineer will only flatten developable surfaces.  Your two options are sheetmetal mode and flatten quilt.

Flatten quilt can have some interesting advantages over sheetmetal, especially if you're beginning with a couple of datum curves and a boundary blend surface.  It can be an odd structure in your .prt file and it's not tightly documented but it does work.

Just make sure your geometry is fully developable.  Developable means that it can be rolled out flat without stretching the geometry.  So if it's curves and boundary blends, be sure that the blend is formed from only two curves.
