Is This Section Line Shown In ASME Y-14.5-2009

Is This Section Line Shown In ASME Y-14.5-2009

Is This Section Line Shown In ASME Y-14.5-2009

(OP)
Someone in another forum was asking how to show a section line per the image, and stated it was per ASME Y-14.5-2009. Can anyone here confirm that?

If confirmed, where and why would it be used?

RE: Is This Section Line Shown In ASME Y-14.5-2009

The image didn't come through, but Y14.5 deals with dimensioning and toleranceing, not drawing or view creation.

I have ASME Y14.3M-2003 (not sure if there's a newer version) but didn't see it (though I only flicked through the std.).

I don't have the 2009 edition of 14.5, but had a real quick flick through -1994 edition and didn't notice it.

Any ideas why or where it would be used?

I've seen similar zig-zags used on 'edges' where the section changes direction in the sectioned view, but never in the section (cutting) line itself.

It's a "Long break line".

Used, well, to break views and create "broken-out" sections.

Has to be solid.

The definitions are in ASME 14.2 Line Conventions and Lettering.

I have never seen it used as a "section" line, only "break" line.
