UG license server

UG license server

UG license server

(OP)
The new owners in their infinite wisdom decided to quit paying our maintenance fees to save money during this rotten economy.  Meanwhile, our license server is a Dell Workstation that is 7 or 8 years old.  The computer has an integrated network card and if the mother board goes out, we are doinked.  I know I could move the license server to another computer when we were paying for maintenance, but what do I do when that old computer finally kicks the bucket?  Am I stuck with buying 3 new seats of UG?

RE: UG license server

Talk to your Siemens' sales rep and get a quote to have maintenance reinstated. Explain to your boss why maintaining maintenamce is a sound idea, license movs, upgrades, bug support, etc. The biggest investment is in the software purchase, the maintenance is minimal after that.

Some softare companies will allow you to rehost your license server even if you aren't on maintenance because you do have a legal right to use that software. They may charge a nominal fee for this that is lower than full maintenance. Again, talk to your sales rep.

RE: UG license server

Ben is right, even if you aren't under maintenance you can have your license transferred to another system. Siemens is able to do it for our customers, it just means you have to pay a fee & sign some paperwork. Contact your sales rep or CSR and they should be able to help you. Obviously you will only get a license for the last version you had maintenance for.

RE: UG license server

Depending on the version your running it might not just be locked to your MAC address, I believe composite ID's started for NX 5 to combat MAC spoofers

I am in the same boat, I recently upgraded my server. So unless I can get them to pay to move it; I'll have to keep the old server running off in the corner.
