Design recomendations for steam volume in HRSG

Design recomendations for steam volume in HRSG

Design recomendations for steam volume in HRSG

(OP)
Dear Sirs,

I am trying to review some steam evaporators (HRSG) installed in our plant. Some operators suggest that the systems are prone to carry-over leading to flooding of the steam line.

I would ask for some design recomendations (Book references, articles or WWW-pages). There is an earlier posting but concrete references or values are missing like the load factor should be xxx m3/h /m2 at yyy pressure or the steam volume should be between x and y m3 at zzz pressure.

I googled already so please submitt only solid answers.

thanks in advance
Kind regards

Did you do a search on this site?

What terms should abcmex search for?

RE: Design recomendations for steam volume in HRSG

Well, let's see ---

I searched on hrsg and got 4 pages of results.  Within those pages I guarantee is a website that will answer about any question he/she might have regarding hrsg's.

But if not, then I'd recommend searching on "steam generator" and "combined cycle".

What I will recommend that is most probably not in that search is the book "Steam" by B&W.  It has a section on steam separation.  Steam separation is the same whether or not it is in a HRSG or a steam boiler.  There is a book on by the old Combustion Engineering Co named "Combustion".  It also has a section on steam separation.

Dear RMW,
as posted I check already the posting in this site and googled more than 5 pages. I have too the "Steam Book" from B&W but they only offer descriptional information of the factors affecting the steam separators. If you have useful information please comment.

Babcocks and Wilcox steam is available in Abebooks.com.  Great reference for your problem.

Dear RMW,
the link contain some information but is not enough detailed, thks.

Chicopee,
as I already wrote to RMW I have the book and by the way it is not a so great reference for this problem.

Kinldy provide  more background on "flooding of main steam line".

Waer can get in the steam line due to overpsray at the attemporators, and carryover of steam from the steam dru driers can occur if you operae at a lower than desing pressure but with full steam flow- this can happen with a 2 on 1 system and only 1 HRSG in service.

Dear Abcmex,
I am also looking for a good reference for this design criteria.
If you find something let me know! (rr_boilers@yahoo.com.br)

Based on several existing boilers and on our own experience as boilers and HRSG manufacturer, I have been using the following numbers:

  P  -   R
(bar)-(m3/m3/h)
  20 -  1000
  70 -   450
  90 -   300

Dear RR79,

I found some information with similar values as you posted but I am interested in lower steam pressure (< 20 bar, water around the tubes)

In some text they had a formula (but not a reference):

max Steam volume load =

0,264*10E3 * pE-0,7 * C exp -0,61

p  pressure     (bar)
C  conductivity (µS/cm)

RE: Design recomendations for steam volume in HRSG

Abcmex,
This equation is similar to Dubbel recomendation.
I attached an extract from his book:

Dubbel: Taschenbuch für den Maschinenbau

Also I have another text (without references) for smoketube boilers with pressure lower than 20 bar, suggesting that the R from my previous answer above should be between 400 to 450 (m3/m3/h).

Regards, Rogerio.
