Rounded Indication Acceptance Criteria

Rounded Indication Acceptance Criteria

Rounded Indication Acceptance Criteria

(OP)
Hi All

Hope you all are enjoying your own day smile

i have one confusion related to acceptance criteria for rounded indication.

As given in section viii div 1 - page 419-4.3- ( f ) Regarding Rounded Indication Charts.

Rounded Indication Charts.

The rounded indications characterized as imperfections shall not exceed that shown in the charts. The charts in Figs. 4-3 through 4-8 illustrate various types of assorted, randomly dispersed and clustered rounded indications for different weld thicknesses greater than 1⁄8 in. (3 mm). These charts represent the maximum
acceptable concentration limits for rounded indications. The charts for each thickness range represent full-scale 6 in. (150 mm) radiographs, and shall not be enlarged or reduced. The distributions shown are not necessarily the patterns that may appear on the radiograph, but are typical of the concentration and size of indications permitted.

Questions are -

1- If indication ( rounded ) coming along the circumference ( full joint ) but concentration is less then as mention in chart , then its acceptable ?

2- Chart is for 6" film , so how we will judge in 12" in film , Is we need to check indication each 6" length?

Thanks and ton

With warm Regards,

RE: Rounded Indication Acceptance Criteria

1 yes
2 you should evaluate the worst 6" part of the film(weld)

Thanks Hakkik.

Some L3 guys still creating confusion and there is NO one view.

Thanks again.

RE: Rounded Indication Acceptance Criteria

Check the dimension of the largest R.I. first, to make sure that it is within tolerance before going through the extent of finding the worst 6" of weld.

Make sure that the porosity is not "aligned", this will constitute another means of acceptance criteria.

Also review the definition of "cluster" porosity.  This will further assist you with acceptance criteria.

Finally, the wall thickness determines the amount of RI you can have in 6" of weld
