star delta starter problems

star delta starter problems

having trouble with star delta starter no one can help me with .
when start button pushed in star contactor activates letting power through , motor does not turn after the set time it changes over to delta and motor turns . checked voltage at star contactor and motor and we are getting full popwer .?

RE: star delta starter problems

If there's voltage on the star contactor during star operation, you have a problem.

The star contactor shall short circuit the wires coming from the motor and there should not be any voltage when motor is in star.

Check if the star contactor has pulled in and that the 'other side' has the necessary straps. If not, the motor will not start.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

RE: star delta starter problems

Further to Gunnar's post, If the star contactor is pulling in and the motor is humming, check for a contact burned off in the star contactor. If the star contactor pulls in and the motor does not hum, look for two or more contacts burned off.

I have removed the contacts from the contactor and cleaned them up but have 440v at other side of contactor when pulled in

RE: star delta starter problems

Not to be condescending, but is there a shorting bar or shorting conductors on the other side?

Just to have a clear common point of reference, look at the diagram below. Yours may be slightly different but would be functionally the same:

So are you saying that you have 440V on one side of KM1, but not on the side where everything needs to be shorted together?

Also, for that you function, you would need for KM1 and KM3 to close at the same time. If KM3 is not closing, then KM1 closing would be pointless.
