Normalizing of dish ends

Normalizing of dish ends

Normalizing of dish ends

(OP)
Where in the ASME standard is mentioned about normalizing of mechanically formed dish ends for pressure vessels?

RE: Normalizing of dish ends

lakshmiapp,
one place I know about is UCS-75 (or maybe UCS-57). There you have a formula to calculate the extent of coldwork when forming the head. It has a limit above which you are required to normalize the head(or even the shell if the limits apply)
hope it helps

RE: Normalizing of dish ends

If the fibre elongation exceed 5% the heads are to be hot formed or heat treated after cold forming. ASME does not say you have to normalise the heads.

If you are normalising the heads after cold forming, mechanical test has to be carried out after normalising. This mechanical test  can be avoided if the original material is in the normalised condition
