Single Axis Gyro Question

Single Axis Gyro Question

Single Axis Gyro Question

(OP)
I was hoping someone can help me with this problem.  I have a unit with a single axis gyro that attaches to a shaft that then rotates around a fixed point (in a fixed plane).  When I put the unit on the shaft, it is usually parallel to the shaft.  It then measure the angle of rotation when the shaft is rotated around the pivot point.  However, sometimes the unit is tilted at a slight angle.  Does anyone know how much this will affect the accuracy of the readings.  For instance, if the unit is tilted 10 degrees on the shaft, I was told that the accuracy would be changed by: CoSine 10 degrees (.985), so the accuracy would be off by 1.5 percent.  Does anyone know if this is correct and, if not, what would the correct formula be?

Thank you.

RE: Single Axis Gyro Question

Really?  A practicing MechE that is questioning how a tilt will affect the reading, and if the formula is correct?
