Hi guys. I´m quite new in that job, and would like to learn about primary test in gas turbine generators... Does anybody knows about a book or tutorial or something interesting to learn about??

Thanks in advance,

RE: primary test information

frhutton:

Primary testing for generators (of whatever type) usually refers to running the unit first on a short circuit, with an excitation supply veriable from zero upwards, so as to get a controllable circulating AC current in the stator and related equipment for the purpose of verifying correct connection, function, and ratio of CT circuits, metering, and relay protections. This is usualy followed by an open circuit test verifying all voltage related functions as well as phase rotation and synchronizing equipment tests.

Such tests are normally for the sake of the control and protection equipment commissioning and not for the generator itself.

For each site a program has best to be written in advance detailing all the tests and expected results.

Primary testing is usually done in European-related parts of the world, but not often done in the USA as it is seen as too time consuming and expensive.

Primary testing is only carried out after all the secondary circuits have been pre-tested, relays calibrated, and tripping and alarm circuits checked.
