sldprt files required with sldasm file in 2011

sldprt files required with sldasm file in 2011

(OP)
I an running 2010.
Someone sent me a sldasm file of size 1.5 meg, but no sldprt files.
Is there a way in 2011 that they actually sent me something useful with only a sldasm file, or do I still need the sldprt files (assuming I had access to 2011)?

RE: sldprt files required with sldasm file in 2011

1. You STILL need the individual part files.
2. If you are on 2010 and the sender is on 2011 the simplest thing they can do is save the assembly as a single Parasolid file and send you that.  Everything will be there, but in a dumb solid form.

RE: sldprt files required with sldasm file in 2011

The assy may consist of Virtual Components.

Have you tried opening it?

RE: sldprt files required with sldasm file in 2011

Oops, sorry ... just re-read that you have SW2010, so would not be able to open the assy.

RE: sldprt files required with sldasm file in 2011

Whoever sent the file should not send only the .sldasm file. They need to use "Pack and Go", select the .zip, then send to you.
