files size issue - company logo makes file size huge
files size issue - company logo makes file size huge
(OP)
I have been struggling with this for a while.
When I save a SW drawing as a dwg or dxf I get files that are as much as 6 meg in size. When I go to the created file and delete our company logo the files come down to about 45k, where they should be. I have tweaked our logo many ways, as jpegs - png - bmp in sizes as small as 5k but they still grow in file size like crazy when inserted into the drawing template. Right now my empty template is about 3 meg. This has the border, logo and custom property links so the title blocked is filled by the model properties.
From the customer portal I found this in "Solution Id: S-051466".
This is from Oct 2010. This is a workaround and is not much help at all when dealing with very large numbers of automatically created files. It is a real nuisance to have to back into the created files and delete logos. I have submitted this to our VAR but wanted to see if anyone out there has a solution.
What is the best practice for creating company logos that are inserted into title blocks - file type, number of colours, file sizes etc...
is there a best practice for saving dwg and dxf files etc...

RE: files size issue - company logo makes file size huge
"This issue is the result of customer's requesting that OLE images (e.g.: bitmaps used for logos) be embedded in the DXF/DWG files when exporting. So, what is happening is that the image is being represented by a large amount of hatching to approximate -as best as can be done- the bitmap that is embedded in the drawing.
I have created a new SPR requesting that users be given the option to export the DWG/DXF with the OLE bitmap embedded or left as OLE: SPR#605064 - Give user the option to embed or keep as OLE when exporting DWG/DXF with OLE bitmaps. "
I actually tried bmp, png, jpeg & gif.
This is set at "medium" so I don't know if this will actually make it into a service pack.

It didnt seem to make that much difference when SW converted it. I have since changed to simple text for our company name. Not as sexy but the files sizes are back to where they should be when I use saveas...

It produces splines and i dont know how well this works in autocad.
For better results i usually trace the contoures by hand.
I have no ideas why the block came out 13degrees rotated from what i had in the part but thats a "bonus"
