Toroidal Ring.

Toroidal Ring.

Toroidal Ring.

(OP)
Hello Dear Friends,

Based on RP-521 there should be a Toroidal Ring to be installed on the vent-stack outlet which dischage hydrocarbon vapours specially Hydrogen.

Any one with experience with this device?

Any Vendor who can supply this?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: Toroidal Ring.

The above link is not the type of toroidal ring you need.  Vent stack toroidal rings are essentially a small (1/2" to 1") diameter piece of SS tubing bent into a circle (ends welded together) with the same center line diameter as the vent stack pipe and welded to the end of the vent stack.  A guy with a tubing bender and a welder could make one.

Greenche,

Thanks a lot for the info.

The assembly you decribed can discharge electrostatic force?

Or we have to ground the tube?

Again thanks a lot for the feedback.

Frank.

RE: Toroidal Ring.

Frank,

API 521 doesn't say that all H2-rich vent should have a toroidal ring. Instead, it simply informs the reader that a toridal ring was found (by NASA to be effective at preventing ignition due to static discharge. That's just information for the user to consider.

Personally, I don't have any experience with toroidal rings. instead, I always assume that a H2-rich stream will ignite (seldom do they not ignite) and include a snuffing steam connection to the tailpipe. Even if you install a toroidal ring, you ought to locate the tailpipe in such a way that it's safe if it does ignite.

In some cases it's probably a good thing that these H2 stream ignite when released. You don't want to form a combustible H2 cloud.
